Remembering President Jeffrey R. Holland
President Jeffrey R. Holland, president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025, at age 85, due to complications from kidney disease. Known for his extraordinary devotion to the Savior and His gospel, President Holland inspired countless individuals with his powerful testimony, compassionate service, and lifelong commitment to teaching Christ’s love and truth. Throughout more than three decades as an Apostle—and in earlier roles as an educator, university president, and Church leader—he touched hearts around the world with empathy, hope, and encouragement, always testifying that the gospel is “personally precious, everlastingly hopeful and eternally true.” His legacy of friendship, ministry, and spiritual insight will be deeply cherished by members and friends across generations.
His life was marked by deep family devotion, academic achievement, and unwavering faith. President Holland and his beloved wife, Sister Patricia Terry Holland—who preceded him in death in 2023—celebrated 60 years of marriage and raised a loving family of three children, 13 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. The Church has announced that his funeral will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, in the Tabernacle on Temple Square, with opportunities for members and friends to attend or view the service. His departure leaves a profound sense of gratitude for his immeasurable contributions to the faith and the lives he uplifted around the world.
